Additional information

This paper rigorously demonstrated for the first time, the applicability of oil derived from intermediate pyrolysis of low-value biogenic wastes as diesel engine fuel. This reduces pollution from waste disposal, mitigates greenhouse gas emissions through use of renewable resources, and delivers economic benefit to waste-generating industries, for example water treatment and paper recycling. The results contribute directly to Aston’s development of a commercial integrated pyrolysis/gasification CHP system in collaboration with Wehrle Werk AG, Germany (V.Steinberg, steinberg@wehrle-werk.de). The work has led to a grant application to EPSRC (in preparation) to develop and extend application of these oils.
