Additional information

This paper describes a numerical technique for the isolation of the Hairpin Vortex Solution for Couette Flow, that was proposed theoretically more than 50 years ago. A phenomenon with infinite degrees of freedom, turbulence, was explained and has been exploited in turbulent fluid dynamics research by Prof John Gibson (in J. Fluid Mech. (2009), vol. 638, pp. 243, john.gibson@unh.edu), at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. The work is exploited by the Academic Laboratory of Professor Itano (itano@kansai-u.ac.jp). The work has been supported by the Royal Academy of Engineering (£6K) and the Leverhulme Trust (£35K).
