Additional information

This paper describes an algorithm that was a breakthrough in 3D phase-unwrapping and remains one of the most widely used unwrapping algorithms. In addition to its inherent robustness and efficiency, it laid the foundation that allowed fast 3D phase unwrapping to become a reality in the four years since its publication. It has achieved particular use in the 3D Medical Imaging field, with requests from the community to convert it into JAVA plugin form, where it has been incorporated into the American National Institutes of Health’s open source image processing software ImageJ.
