This invited paper describes new functionality (tested against novel metrics) added to release 2.4.0 (October 2012) of open source software framework OpenSees for analysing structures in fire. The software has attracted worldwide take-up in the “structures in fire” community (e.g Ann Jeffers, jffrs@umich.edu, Venkatesh Kodur, kodur@egr.msu.edu, Guo-Qiang Li, gqli@tongji.edu.cn, Maria Garlock,mgarlock@princeton.edu and industry, e.g., Florian Block, Buro Happold). OpenSees author/administrator Dr Frank McKenna (fmckenna@ce.berkeley.edu) requested Usmani to present a webinar (5 pm, 27-03-13, to enable researchers across USA to participate). Paper has led to a further joint publication with McKenna (accepted by Journal of Computing in Civil Engineering, DoI:10.1061/(ASCE)CP.1943-5487.0000305).
