Additional information

This internationally co-authored paper, funded in Germany by DFG MC113/1-5 (€77k), presents a novel method to combine the multi-scale processes of flow and diffusion in fractured rock. The work has application to nuclear waste disposal in crystalline rock (Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland, wilfried.pfingsten@psi.ch) and geothermal energy extraction. The work is identified as a basis for further development of high-end computational methods applied to assessing natural fractured rocks: Leipzig, DoI:10.1016/j.advwatres.2013.03.003; and Switzerland, DoI:10.1007/s10596-012-9310-6.
