This paper demonstrates the use of ionic liquids in optodes (ionophore-based optical sensors) for the first time. The work attracted significant funding from Dublin City University (40K Euro) and led to significant further work in this area and an invitation to organise the "Polymers in Analysis" session at Macro2010 part of the 43rd IUPAC world polymer congress.
