Direct Speech, Self-Presentation and Communities of Practice
The monograph ‘Direct Speech, Self-Presentation and Communities of Practice’ consists of the collection and analysis of considerable body of material, as it deals with naturally occurring talk. In terms of data collection, ethnographic methods are employed, which required spending a lengthy period of time with 24 informants (1 year), as well as transcription of 15 hours of conversations. Data analysis includes the combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches to a topic that is normally studied only qualitatively, as both in-depth analysis of narratives and statistical testing are employed to address direct speech representation.
