Journey Westward is an 80,000-word monograph written over a seven year period from 2005-2012 aided by a year's AHRC-funded research leave (2005-06), a small grant from the British Academy (2006), a summer scholarship at St John's College, Oxford (2005), and a Visiting Fellowship at the Harry Ransom Center, University of Texas (March-April 2010). The book is a detailed and original rereading of Dubliners that considers Joyce's historiographical knowledge and his extensive reading of other writers both literary and historical. The book was nominated for the American Conference of Irish Studies best book on Irish literature in 2012.
