This study in conjunction with Tallinn Technical University, Estonia was funded by both EPSRC and Ricardo UK Ltd (EP/E047912/1) and demonstrated the first relevant automotive engineering application of a new generalised theoretical model of vortex rings to fuel sprays. Results have advanced the technical knowledge of Ricardo UK Ltd contributing to development programmes for low CO2 production engines for multi-national, automotive OEM clients. As a result Ricardo supported a larger EPSRC grant EP/K005758/1 that extends the collaborations to include Moscow State University.
