Architettura e trasformazioni urbane nella capitale: gli sviluppi delle iniziative francesi nel periodo austriaco (1821-27)
The paper considers for the first time Austrian architecture and urban planning in the Kingdom of Naples (1821-27). The Austrian contribution is recorded in the Carta Austriaca (1822-1826), a neglected document in 1/105.000 scale, important to the understanding of this contribution to infrastructural works. The most interesting is the completion of work, started by the French, and in particular the hemicycle of San Francesco di Paola (today Piazza del Plebiscito) in 1806. The paper then considers the so-called ‘financial wall’ (1826-31), which encloses the city and is still a recognisable part of the urban fabric.
