Additional information

The paper, the second in a series, reports the findings of a major research work into the training of teachers in special educational needs from the 1970’s to 2008. Its originality was that at time of publication it was the only article that provided a comprehensive analysis of the manner in which training had been developed both historically and currently. The rigour of the work is based upon the employment of a comprehensive meta-analysis to the published work in the field.

The paper has significance to an audience researching the development of UK based teacher training in Special educational needs. It also formed the basis for a piece in the Times Educational Supplement (June, 1 , 2009) and has been cited in 20 other peer-reviewed journals.
