A compact RBF-FD based meshless method for the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations
Significance of output:
Fluid structure interactions (FSI) problems are amongst the most challenging classes of problems in computational engineering, and are a crucial consideration in the design of many industrial engineering systems (maritime, aerospace, bioengineering, etc). Mesh generation and distortion are the major limitations of mesh-based methods (FVM/FEM) for fluid/FSI problems. This paper presents an alternative RBF-FD mesh-free particle method for solving incompressible and FSI problems. As a result of this paper, Lloyd’s Register of Shipping London (Dr Cheng, Fai.Cheng@lr.org) agreed to support a PhD student to exploit the method for maritime applications.
