Additional information

For the first time practical measurements were made on an impulse turbine to measure speed, torque and power. The proposal of a novel base bearing plate housed in the stator floor for reducing friction effects was seen to be a major advancement. Potential applications for these devices include use by the medical industry and portable power generation sources. This study was based on work carried out for EPSRC grant GR/R56631/01, £60k.
