Additional information

Leading from earlier funded EPSRC research [EPSRC Grant GR/F01727/01, £55k pre-FEC], this is the first of three papers dealing with patch repair of continuous beams. Results demonstrate that existing practice of ignoring any contribution of exposed reinforcement during structural repair may be unduly conservative. This research enables the repair process to be accelerated by allowing break out of deteriorated concrete in larger segments and with less temporary support. The benefits are less disruptive to users and to sustainability through, for example, reducing traffic emissions due to congestion when undertaking bridge repair.
