Additional information

We proposed and demonstrated, for the first time a secure optical communication system based on bit-by-bit optical-code scrambling using a novel time-domain spectral phase encoding/decoding technique. The experiment demonstrated 2.5-Gb/s data 34-km transmission with five 8-chip, 20-Gchip/s optical-codes. Following this, we further reported secure transmission of 10Gb/s DPSK data with code-length-variable optical-codes (DOI:10.1364/OL.36.001623) and 40-Gbps OOK data with 1024-chip optical-codes (DOI:10.1364/OL.36.004326). This opens the potential to provide practical secure high speed optical communication systems. The work led to invited talks in POEM’11 (http://poem.wnlo.cn/) and ICOCN’2013(http://sist.swjtu.edu.cn/icocn).
