Other Landscapes : Colonialism and the Predicament of Authority in Nineteenth-Century South India
Research for this monograph was carried out over 10 years using district, state, and national repositories in India and UK, and social, environmental, legal, and agrarian research methods. Sources investigated include five government departments of the colonial archive in addition to newspapers, private papers, scientific and institutional reports, lithographs, photographs, and other literature. These materials were used to interrogate innovatively the relationship between the social and environmental history of the region, the construction of the archive, and the mores of local, regional and global governance over an 80-year period.
