Volgarizzamenti in prosa 1822-1827
If only one of the double-weighting requests is accepted, 'Il rifugio dell’apparenza. Il paganesimo post-metafisico di Leopardi' should be assessed as reserve.
Between 1822 and 1827 Leopardi devoted considerable energy to the translation of Greek and Latin historians and moral philosophers. D'Intino's 513-page critical edition provides the fullest reading to date of these texts, along with an authoritative account of the relations between them (published and unpublished) and their interaction with Leopardi's other work. For the first time these translations are understood as a coherent philosophical project. The creation over some ten years of the necessary critical apparatus for an edition of this importance also required D'Intino to raise his mastery of Greek to an even more sophisticated and specialist level.
