Double-weighted statement

Written with the support of a British Academy Research Grant, this monograph is based on the author's extensive original interviews with the subject filmmaker and observation of him at work at the Austin Film Studios that he co-founded in Austin, Texas. The monograph is also based extensive materials: films, little-known documentaries and previously unseen short films and un-broadcasted work for television. Its complex theoretical underpinning analyses his cinema in relation to European philosophies of time and movement (Bergson, Deleuze, Debord, Bakhtin), modernist literature (Joyce, Anderson, Coupland), European art (Cubism, Surrealism) and European cinema (Godard, Buñuel, Bresson).
