Additional information

A novel approach has been developed for predicting the sediment-linked bacterial concentration distribution in coastal and estuarine waters. The new enteric bacteria transport equation includes enhanced source and sink terms to represent bacterial

kinetic transformation due to sunlight radiation (varies with day-night time and sediment concentration) and disappearance or reappearance due to sediment deposition or suspension. The model has been applied to the turbid water environment in the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary. This collaborative project (Cardiff/ Aberystwyth) was part-funded the EA and part by European Community’s regional development fund (ERDF Ref. 51296).
