Additional information

As an international collaboration (Kamba, Prague), infrared and terahertz spectroscopy were performed on sodium bismuth copper titanate (NBCTO) to discover the fundamental origin of its high intrinsic permittivity. This was the first demonstration of incipient ferroelectricity in this unusual class of perovskites and allowed rationalisation of the structure-dielectric properties of NBCTO with conventional perovskite-based dielectrics. NBCTO is potentially attractive for microwave dielectric resonators as its high permittivity (which is rare) allows a reduction in the size of these devices.
