Spectroscopic study of electrolytic plasma and discharging behaviour during the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process
The paper reports major research breakthroughs, which have considerably benefitted the practical use of plasmas in liquids. Time-resolved analysis of the plasma provided new insights into coating formation mechanisms, facilitating development of novel plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coatings with enhanced wear and corrosion resistance, providing a platform for the use of PEO coatings in diverse applications (aerospace, automotive and medical). Validation of the use in applications such as medical devices and pistons is ongoing with processing and end-user companies (e.g. Plasma Coatings Group and Wilksch Airmotive).
