This paper offers major improvements to key sections of Chapters 6 and 7 in “EurOtop” (ISBN:9783804210646), and has resulted in decisions at HR Wallingford (William Allsop), the Netherlands (Jentsje van der Meer, consultant), and Germany (A.Kortenhaus@tu-bs.de) to develop the 2nd edition of this standard civil engineering design guide for best-practice in the “wave overtopping of sea defences” manual developed for North Sea and Baltic coastlines. Communications during preparation of this paper have resulted in Italy joining EurOtop (Leopoldo Franco, Modimar). The first edition of EurOtop has logged 8300 downloads from 89 countries, second edition contracts are being finalised.
