Additional information

This publication takes chemical imaging to the next level, as a quantitative biological assay. Our method is the first and only non-destructive, non-invasive assessment of stem cell differentiation, so is ideally suited to regenerative medicine. These outputs were very influential in securing a £2M award from MRC (MR/K015710/1, Next Generation Optical Microscopy). The work has resulted in an invitation for Downes to contribute a book chapter in “Optical techniques in regenerative medicine” for Taylor & Francis (ISBN 9781439854952).
