Additional information

This work provides new fundamental insights into the behaviour of a two-phase interfacial flows. This numerical work indicated that waves reduced cleaning times at low fluid volumes for cleaning-in-place at Unilever (Pamela Cole), and Alfa-Laval (Bobb Jensen), who co-funded the work (TSB: TP//ZEE/6/1/2119). The numerical work led to four EPSRC-HECToR grants (Project code: e174, £306k) with UC Dublin (onaraigh@maths.ucd.ie) and Université de Lyon1(peter.spelt@univ-lyon1.fr) and an open-source, parallel 3D Two-Phase Level-Set solver, launched in 2013 (http://edin.ac/10cRKzS). The work is being extended by other groups in Japan (DoI:10.1016/j.ijmultiphaseflow.2011.08.002) and in Germany (DoI:10.1063/1.4792311). (Industrial contact emails available).
