This paper was the culmination of an EPSRC project (GR/T21639/01, £600k) that was the first to introduce the AFM technique to microbubble studies. The mechanical properties of microbubbles are of paramount importance for their biomedical applications, e.g. for ultra-sound imaging and drug/gene delivery.
