CEN 15945 Packaging Ease of Opening, British Standards Institute

In recognition of his published research on packaging accessibility, Yoxall was invited to be the UK expert on the development of European guidelines on the subject. The resulting standard, CEN15945 'Packaging Ease of Opening', is currently available and is widely in use by companies such as Rexam, Amcor, RPC, Bericap, Reckitt Benckiser, Procter and Gamble, Tetra Pak, Chesapeake, Crown Cork, Logo Plastics, Sonoco and H.J. Heinz.

Yoxall has recently employed the standard to undertake a large study for a major international food producer (H.J. Heinz Ltd). The results of this test (and others undertaken by Yoxall) have been used to provide information for future modifications to the standard and for a new standard; ISO17840 'Guidelines for Accessible Packaging', which is currently under development. As a committee member, Yoxall has been closely involved in the development of this International standard, and his work on strength and dexterity will be included in a further Annex to the standard.
