Additional information

This paper is one of the first to focus on the heat island phenomenon in a 'shrinking city' and was adopted by the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Green Network Partnership (http://www.gcvgreennetwork.gov.uk/). This led to collaboration with the GCVGNP that secured research funding from the Central Scotland Green Network (“Green Infrastructure for Overheating Adaptation in Glasgow,” Project Code: 10361 K4135). Based on the heat island work reported in the paper, the subsequent project developed urban vegetation strategies as part of climate change adaptation approaches.
