Additional information

<28> Cancer genome studies report the mutation status of a cancer genome, not the sequence of events that resulted in it. We have devised an algorithm (available in Matlab) that reverse-engineers the mutation process to indicate the order and timing of the mutations and hence describe the evolution of the cancer genome. This method has been cited in 15 different journals, both biological and bioinformatic, including Genome Research (three times) and Cell (twice). The approach was recently undertaken across 21 breast cancers and demonstrated that genomic instability occurs during later phases of tumour development.
