Effects of acoustic radiation force and shear waves for absorption and stiffness sensing in ultrasound modulated optical tomography.
Tissue optical and elasticity properties contain complementary information about tissue function but currently there is no integrated system that can detect both. This work developed an imaging technique capable of sensing optical absorption and stiffness properties of tissue at centimetre depth simultaneously. The work was funded by EPSRC (EP/H02316X/1, £116k). It has resulted in an international lecture invitation in San Francisco (Photon Plus Ultrasound, Photonics West 2012). The first author of the paper was a PhD student under my supervision and based on this work she obtained a postdoctoral position at University of California Irvine.
