This paper provides a new type of coordination for MIMO-OFDMA downlink networks suitable for realistic deployment scenarios (accounting for practical impairments at the terminal and network sides). It is shown to outperform state of the art strategies and require a much lower feedback and backhaul overhead and a lower implementation complexity. The work has led to: (1) technique adopted by Samsung Electronics (contact: Heunchul Lee, Senior Engineer, Samsung Electronics, heunchul.lee@samsung.com), (2) candidate technology for LTE-Advanced CoMP (contributions R1-110742 and R1-110745), (3) patents in wireless communications (US20110194632,US20120052895,EP2534767).
