This book is the result of ten years' work. To produce it involved substantial primary and archival research abroad, mainly in Germany working on sources in German. The book not only contains reference to documents previously unknown and unconsidered but new visual sources as well, and to material held in personal as well as public collections, not all of which are generally accessible. Its topic is not restricted to the visual arts but encompasses Dada manifestations in a variety of forms, including literature and performance, adding significantly to the complexity and difficulty of realising it.
