Additional information

This paper presents a novel methodology for urban flood simulation using the 1D/2D coupled model that involves interactions between surcharging from pipe networks and the surface flow. The SIPSON/UIM model (based on this methodology) originally developed by the authors described and tested in this paper was one of the very first such models worldwide. This methodology has been adopted by leading software companies (e.g. MIKE by DHI; http://www.dhigroup.com, Ole Mark omj@dhigroup.com), and is increasingly becoming standard in industry. The paper led to an invited lecture at the 8th International Conference on Urban Drainage Modelling in Tokyo (http://www.envrisk.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp/udm/program/lecture.html).
