<20>First paper studying how tabletop computers could be made accessible to blind people. Tabletop computers are smooth and featureless surfaces and, prior to our work, impossible for blind people to use. The fully-functioning tabletop system we built was rigorously evaluated with blind people and comprehensively compared to competing solutions in a detailed usability experiment. Won an Honourable Mention award at ACM SIGCHI2010. Award winners are chosen from the top 5% of papers. ACM CHI is the top publication venue in HCI. This work built on our widely cited research into touchscreen phones for blind people (dx.doi.org/10.1145/1463160.1463193).
