Additional information

This paper demonstrated that the Nb addition to the Al-Fe-Cr nanoquasicrystalline alloys stabilizes the quasicrystals delaying their transformation to higher temperatures. This achievement generated scientific interest of the quasicrystals stabilization and technological interest on the possibility of retaining the high strength at elevated temperature, which is an great challenge for Al alloys. The use of a more stable nanoquasicrystalline alloy as the matrix in nanocomposites increased the relevance of the Patent EP2079854 “Metal Matrix Composites Material”; F. Audebert, et al, which has been extended worldwide. These results form part of the grounds for several projects granted in Argentina and Oxford.
