Additional information

This is an international collaborative project involving researchers from Hong Kong, China and United States to investigate the growth and properties of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) prepared using a simple microwave-assisted hydrothermal technique. The as-grown GQDs exhibit deep ultraviolet emission wavelength, which is independent of the size of the GQDs. This is due to the unique self-passivated layer at the surface of the GQDs. This work is leading to the development of DUV photonic devices that have major applications in information storage technology, medical treatment and environmental protection.
