Additional information

This report was jointly written in committee sessions. It has:

• helped shape policy through a deeper understanding of sustainable use of peatland habitats;

• enabled presentations to be made to Parliaments in Scotland, Northern Ireland and the House of Lords;

• stimulated a joint Government Ministerial statement for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, setting out policy objectives and committing substantial funding to UK peatland conservation and restoration (£1.7 million in Scotland alone);

• stimulated establishment of a Specialist Peatland Group within the IUCN Commission on Ecosystem Management, guiding policy makers and land-use practitioners throughout the world.
