<01>This paper builds on early work that won Best Paper award at the International Conference on Evolvable Systems (Springer, Vol. 6274, pp. 133-144, 2010). The significance of the new hardware interconnect strategy developed in this paper is demonstrated through extensive analysis and benchmarking of area/power and throughput, where it is shown to outperform existing state-of-the-art (EU FACETs, ESPRC-funded SpiNNaker projects). A joint EPSRC proposal submitted with Prof. Pradhan (Bristol) and Dr. Bouganis (Imperial College) was based on the paper.
