<13>This paper’s originality is in that it was the first to apply the idea of a looped traffic system in a macroscopic modelling context (looped models have previously only been studied for microscopic models). As such it forms the foundation for a novel class of macroscopic model analysis. It led to a successful application for funding under a short grant program within the University of Ulster designed to develop promising research areas within the institution.
