Additional information

This research reports on a novel technique (sponsored by the Korean Ministry of Education) for shear strengthening of RC T-beams using un-bonded wire rope units. Comprehensive experimental testing and computational analyses were conducted to assess the significance and shortcomings of the proposed technique. This study differs from many studies in that it examines realistic statically indeterminate beams having T-sections rather than simply-supported ones with rectangular sections. The strengthening technique is practical and easy to assemble and maintain and it improved the shear failure ductility. Currently the technique is being extended to reinforced concrete column strengthening
