Double-weighted statement

This is a ground-breaking book which shows for the first time not only the effect of monetisation on the development of Athenian literature but also the profound affinities between presocratic philosophy and Aeschylus. It took five years to write (three years funded full-time by the Leverhulme and then several months by the AHRC), and brings together several disciplines: literary and philological scholarship, the study of performance and of ritual, literary theory, presocratic philosophy, economic history, and political history.
