Effect of shear connector spacing and layout on the shear connector capacity in composite beams
This seminal paper, based on experimental and numerical study, provides a major insight into steel-concrete composite beams with profiled sheeting. The key contribution to knowledge and understanding is that the effect of transverse spacing of shear studs is studied for the first time. Another novelty of the paper is modelling of post-failure behaviour of the beam, which is crucial for determination of its shear resistance and failure modes. The research was supported by The Metal Cladding and Roofing Manufacturers Association (MCRMA). This paper influenced the research community’s thinking and led to further development of channel and Y-type shear connectors.
