Additional information

This paper defines a novel method for assessing the functional surface of a textured hip replacement stem taper surface. The study defines a measurement and analysis method for determining the form of this taper, which has been identified as a possible source of crevice corrosion and failure. This is the first time that a method for measurement of this has been defined and this has potential impact in the detailed study of the corrosion at this interface, a topic that is a pressing issue in orthopaedics.
