Additional information

This papers demonstrates Reduced or inhibited collagen turnover in an energy storing tendon isolated from horses (superficial digital flexor tendon (SDFT)) and this may account for the high level of degeneration and subsequent injury compared to other non energy storing tendons. This paper provides an insight into the differing susceptibility of energy storing and positional tendons to injury. The results have implications for treatment and management of tendon injuries and for exercise regimes in humans and in horses to minimise risk of tendon injury and potentially to predict the rate of tendon repair at different anatomical.
