Integrated electrode and high density feedthrough system for chip-scale implantable devices.
The paper demonstrates the biocompatibility and improved performance of the novel high-density electrodes and micropackaging materials I developed to produce the first realistic visual prostheses. Advances in electronic implant manufacture require the input of large multidisciplinary teams, hence several co-authors were involved in preparing the samples following my method. The impact of our paper is considerable. Although we have only recently demonstrated the suitably of these new materials and technologies for very long-term human implantation, we are already seeing the emergence of new applications previously technically inconceivable. This is now exploited for an innovative obesity treatment.
