Hindmarch deposited the films from which devices were fabricated; supervised the PhD student (Seemann), who submitted the paper, in making the electrical, magnetic and structural characterisations of the films and devices; advised the student on analysis and interpretation of the data; and assisted the student in writing the manuscript (with the exception of the theoretical section which was the work of collaborators elsewhere).
