Deposition of functionalized polymer layers in surface plasmon resonance immunosensors by in-situ polymerization in the evanescent wave field
This novel surface engineering technique uses the energy of the evanescent wave field of a Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) for in-situ formation of polymeric materials. This creates a micro site-specific deposition of polymer exactly where the SPR crystal is interrogated, rather than relying on traditional bulk depositions. These materials have been used to immobilise a protein to create a model immunosensor, which demonstrated the characteristic performance for this type, so validating the deposition method. This kind of molecular engineering offers new options for microscale sensor technology (MEMS).
