This is the first reported synthesis of the D spherosilicones, D(6) and D(8) cage crystal structure. They had been postulated and there was some spectroscopic evidence, but nobody had previously succeeded in synthesizing these crystal structures despite their potential as polymer additives and crosslinkers. A KTP with Cornelius Specialities is now taking this work forward.
