Additional information

This is the first study of the fragmentation patterns of isolated molecules (fragment anion or cation production) in collisions with negative ions. The work opens new opportunities to study negative ion impact induced processes including charge transfer, fragmentation and reactivity. The ability to modify chemical pathways using incident anions in beams or plasma sources has applications for the development and processing of materials. Therefore, insights into fundamental anion interactions with molecules provided by this paper will underpin future applications in various sectors from nanotechnology to biofuels.
