The submitted output is the new material in the second edition of a 2005 book. 40,000 words have been added to the book, increasing its size by over 45%. It incorporates new research, including 15 new interviews with prominent comedians such as Stewart Lee, Stephen K Amos and Margaret Cho. Chapter 5 is entirely new, discussing recent trends in British and American stand-up comedy. The structure of the book has been heavily revised, and the new material is distributed throughout, represented in almost every chapter, using new examples to broaden and deepen arguments pursued in the first edition.
