Additional information

Paper describes a non-contact ultrasonic application of robotic inspection, developed as part of the multi-partner EPSRC UK Research Centre in Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE), [EP/F017332/1, www.rcnde.ac.uk]. Using an existing robotic platform to deliver non-contact air coupled NDE opens significant potential for new inspection scenarios involving reconfigurable systems and sensors. Technical challenges include optimisation of coverage as well as physical transduction. Current collaborations with the Bristol Robotics Laboratory [Tony.Pipe@brl.ac.uk], and industrial RCNDE partners in nuclear, oil and gas and power industries National Nuclear Laboratory [gary.bolton@nnl.co.uk], Shell plc [sieger.terpstra@shell.com], EoN [Colin.Brett@eon.com] demonstrate continued applications and impact for this technology.
